Project Overview
North Carolina was awarded funds to implement several key initiatives to improve early learning and development programs and state systems supporting young children who are disadvantaged. Among these initiatives is a project activity that will create family engagement technical assistance “hubs” across the state, leveraging the expertise of NC Head Start and Early Head Start programs to lead them. Four Square Head Start received the award as the technical assistance hub for Haywood, Jackson, and Swain counties.
Technical Assistance
Technical assistance support will focus on effective strategies for working with families with intentionality and purpose to:
- Nurture within parents, an active and ongoing interest in their children’s development
- Become or remain regularly involved with activities of their children’s childcare program
- Establish effective methods of ongoing, two-way communication
- Support successful transitions of children into other preschool programs or kindergarten
It's not only children who grow. Parents do too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us to see what we do with ours. I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself. --Joyce Maynard
